Google Caffeine is Live, Puts you in a Vortex? [VIDEO]
OK, maybe not a vortex, but Mr. Searcher doesn’t exactly look safe in that nuclear explosion of search results.
At any rate, Google’s long-awaited indexing update, nicknamed Caffeine, is now live. At SMX Advanced’s You & A, Google’s Matt Cutts discussed the update and Google HQ simultaneously announced the changes to the masses via a blog post on the official Google blog: Our new search index: Caffeine
According to Google:
With Caffeine, we analyze the web in small portions and update our search index on a continuous basis, globally. As we find new pages, or new information on existing pages, we can add these straight to the index. That means you can find fresher information than ever before—no matter when or where it was published.
Essentially, Google’s previous indexing infrastructure (Decaf?) could not process all of the varied content (images, videos, tweets, etc.) directly into the search results in real time. Caffeine allows all of this content to be searchable within seconds of it being indexed.
So how does that effect you? According to Vanessa Fox at SEL, Caffeine does not change Google’s ranking algorithm.
It also means that diversifying and integrating video, images, news and social updates into your content development strategy are going to become increasingly more important to SEO success and visibility. It also means that the more places your content is referenced, the better.
Thankfully, it’s a strategy that we’ve always believed and found to be fruitful internally and with clients.
Search Engine Land was also good enough to post the You & A, embedded below:
